THE HISTORY OF TEAM INTENSE MARTIAL ARTS

Team Intense Martial Arts started in August 1999 in Master Catalasan's garage in Cerritos, California. She, and best friend at the time, Brandon Durand, decided to start their own team to follow in the footsteps of their Master (Master Pely Ferrer).

Master Catalasan made some fliers and sent out some emails (via AOL - yep, old school! lol) to try and get people to train with them, and they asked their friends to help advertise on the internet as well. Their efforts didn't go unnoticed. They attracted about 4 students whom they trained 4 days a week, 3 hours a day. They offered the styles of Taekwondo, Kali/Eskrima, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After about 3 weeks of training, their students got busy with school, work, etc. Team Intense was shut down for the meantime.

In mid 2000, Master Catalasan decided to help out her good friend, Master JD Dimaculangan, at the local recreation center where he taught Taekwondo. She helped out periodically at first, then, as time went on, she grew attached to the students, and decided to dedicate more time into teaching them.

In December of 2000, Master JD Dimaculangan decided to pursue other ventures. He asked Master Catalasan to take over at the recreation center as the Master Instructor.

Team Intense was reborn on January 8, 2001.

Master Catalasan credits God, her super supportive parents and sisters, her training buddies, and all the Team students and parents for the success of Team Intense Martial Arts.
