In August of 1999, Master Catalasan and her best friend at the time, Brandon Durand, decided that they wanted to follow in the footsteps of their Master (Master Pely Ferrer - Ferrer Academy of Martial Arts), and open up their own martial arts studio. Being the young and broke kids that they were, they decided to start exactly where Master Ferrer started as well - THE GARAGE.

After a lot of advertising online via AOL (yeah... WAY old school!), they scored themselves 4 students (Ken, Joel, Richard, and Joana)! They trained them for about a month, and unfortunately, due to their busy schedules, they had to stop training. The Team Intense Martial Arts doors closed for the meantime.

Master Catalasan and Brandon lost touch over the next few months, but in 2000, Master Catalasan decided to help out her friend Master JD Dimaculangan at The Buena Park Recreation Center, teaching Taekwondo. She helped out periodically at first, then as she started to get to know the students more, she dedicated more time to it. Toward the end of 2000, Master Dimaculangan asked Master Catalasan if she was interested in taking over the Taekwondo program at the Rec Center. Master Catalasan, without any hesitation, accepted.

On January 8, 2001 TEAM INTENSE MARTIAL ARTS was reborn.

Master Catalasan credits God, her parents, her sisters, her Master, and all the Team Intense parents and students who have supported her over the years, for the success of the team.
